Why Does Eastport Consider Itself Separate from Annapolis?
If you spend enough time in Annapolis, eventually someone will mention Eastport like it is its own little world. And honestly, they are not entirely wrong.
Just across the Spa Creek Bridge, Eastport has built a reputation for doing things its own way. While technically part of Annapolis, the neighborhood has a strong identity, filled with local traditions, waterfront views, walkable streets, and a deep sense of community pride.
You may have even heard people jokingly refer to Eastport as “The Maritime Republic of Eastport.” The phrase dates back to the late 1990s, when locals playfully declared independence during a disagreement over a bridge construction project. What started as humor quickly became part of the neighborhood’s personality and local lore.

Today, the spirit of Eastport still feels alive in the best way. There is a relaxed, community centered energy that draws both locals and visitors in. You will find people gathering by the water, biking to local restaurants, supporting neighborhood businesses, and celebrating traditions that make this part of Annapolis feel so special.
At Mango & Main, we love carrying products that help people feel connected to the places they love. Our Annapolis pennants have long been a favorite, and we were excited to recently bring in Eastport versions too. Whether you are a longtime local, a Maritime Republic loyalist, or someone who simply loves the charm of the area, they are such a fun way to celebrate the community that makes Annapolis special. Stop by the shop to see all of our Annapolis and Eastport pennants in person or find them online anytime.
