About the Artisans:

In the rural Kenyan countryside around the city of Kitui, women specialize in weaving the tough fibers of the agave sisalana plant. Sisal's spiky leaf clusters erupt from a dry landscape and often requires long journeys to gather. Once woven, these baskets are sold to local and international markets. Singing, dancing, and chatting make weaving for export an enjoyable social event!

Each basket is carefully handmade by a talented Wolof woman in rural Senegal.

Artisans in the Bolgatanga region of Ghana weave this colorful checkered tote from thick, tough elephant grass that has been dyed a vibrant strawberry red. Bolga baskets can be easily wet down and reshaped, and can be used and enjoyed for years on end.

To reshape, spray with cool water and lightly press into desired shape. Allow to air dry.

Woven by Wolof craftswomen, these African hampers feature a dotted pattern crafted using plastic strips recycled from prayer mat factories. Designed with durability in mind, each basket features a flat lid and cutout handles.
